I have always been passionate about learning whether informally or formally and I was fortunate to discover the benefits of CMAE quite early in my career. I sat the CCM exam in 2013 and was proud to join the ranks of CCM’s in Ireland and Europe. It is a qualification that I work hard to maintain through attendance at local events and World Conference. Continuing education is a vital part of our day to day management and the knowledge gained through regular education sessions and interaction with my colleagues in the industry is invaluable. I can’t recommend CMAE education highly enough and I encourage other managers to pursue CCM qualification
Having graduated with a degree in European Studies from Trinity College Dublin, I began my career in the golf industry as a management trainee at Carton House. I worked my way up to the role of Golf Operations Manager after 2 years and completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Studies at Dublin Business School. I worked at Carton House for 6 years and then spent time in two other golf resorts in Ireland as Director of Golf– Mount Wolseley Resort and Moyvalley Resort. Following this, I worked as General Manager in Rathfarnham Golf Club, a private Members’ Club on the outskirts of Dublin. I am currently employed as General Manager of The Island Golf Club. The Island is ranked number 7 on the island of Ireland and is a traditional links course and co-host to The Amateur Championship in 2019. During my time at The Island, I completed a certificate in Food & Beverage Management from the Dublin Institute of Technology. The Island is a fantastic Club with a rich history. Until 1973, access to the Club was by means of a boat from Malahide village and our Members are proud of this history and the origins of the Club. The Club is in high demand among overseas visitors also and a large part of my job focuses on ensuring operating standards match the expectations of Members and visitors. The name of The Island is growing globally and I work hard to market the Club in the various key markets for us.
