As Director of Education for CMAE, I have the privilege of seeing firsthand the impact that professional development has on individuals, Clubs, and the wider industry. The way we manage Clubs today is vastly different from even a decade ago. Expectations are higher, challenges are more complex, and the need for skilled, knowledgeable leaders has never been greater. That’s why education isn’t just a ‘nice-to-have’ – it’s vital.
At the heart of CMAE’s commitment to education is our Management Development Programme (MDP), which has become the benchmark for Club industry education across Europe and beyond. If you work in Club management—whether it’s a golf Club, city Club, yacht Club, or any other type, you’ll know that every day brings a unique set of challenges. The MDP equips managers with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to navigate these challenges successfully.
A Learning Journey Like No Other
One of the things that makes the MDP so special is that it’s not just a series of lectures. We are incredibly fortunate to have such dedicated educators who not only teach but inspire. Their insights, combined with the experiences shared by our delegates, create an environment where learning is dynamic, relevant, and, most importantly, enjoyable.
More Than Just MDP
While the MDP is the backbone of our education pathway, learning doesn’t stop there. We know that Club managers are busy people, so we offer a variety of other educational opportunities to keep professional development accessible and flexible.
- Friday Forums: Regular online sessions featuring expert speakers, covering current topics and emerging trends.
- Summits & Workshops: In-depth sessions that tackle specific challenges facing Club managers today, offering solutions that can be implemented immediately.
- Networking Opportunities: One of the most valuable aspects of CMAE’s educational offerings is the chance to connect with peers. Whether it’s at an MDP course, a summit, or an online forum, the shared knowledge and support within the CMAE community is second to none.
- In 2025 we will be developing even more educational programmes which will be developed to be delivered over 2 – 3 days and be designed to assist our members get a broader understanding of the core competencies of the ever evolving Club industry.
The Road to CCM – A Mark of Excellence
For those looking to take their professional development to the highest level, the Certified Club Manager (CCM) designation is the gold standard. Achieving CCM is no small feat – it requires dedication, experience, and a commitment to lifelong learning. But those who earn the designation join an elite group of Club managers who are recognised worldwide for their expertise, professionalism and leadership.
Many of our MDP delegates have set their sights on CCM, using the education pathway as a structured route to get there. It’s always inspiring to see someone start with MDP 1 and progress all the way through to CCM certification. Their success is a testament to their hard work and to the power of education in shaping careers.
