Top Club Managers come to London for prestigious BMI International

Leading club managers from Europe and America gathered in London recently for the 2016 Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) Business Management Institute (BMI) International Conference from 6-11 October.

Leading club managers from Europe and America gathered in London recently for the 2016 Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) Business Management Institute (BMI) International Conference from 6-11 October.

The event, which was organised and hosted by the CMAE London & Home Counties Region, saw around 100 club management professionals from major golf, country, city and dining clubs on both sides of the Atlantic attend the five-day programme, which was a combination of keynote presentations, interactive sessions, round table debate and networking, as well as including a fantastic social calendar in and around historical London.

Keynote speakers at BMI International included Author, Olympian and Journalist Matthew Syed, Alistair Campbell the Director of Communications and Strategy to Tony Blair, Solheim Cup Captain Carin Koch, Tennis stars Boris Becker and Tim Henman, Impressionist Alistair McGowan, Sarah Malone, GM, of Trump International GC, Ann Robbie, Secretary of the Garrick Club and Head Coach of the 2003 England Rugby World Cup team Sir Clive Woodward, in addition to a whole host of other speakers specialising in subjects such as Leadership, Customer Service, Food & Beverage and Club Management Excellence.

Ed Ronan CCM, CCE, a CMAA member and delegate at BMI 2016 said: “I have attended many CMAA BMI and 15 World Conferences and enjoyed this one the most. I thought the clubs and speakers were top notch.”

The event saw delegates visiting some of London’s most prestigious venues and historic London clubs including the House of Lords, Royal Air Force Club, All England Lawn Tennis Club, Lansdowne Club, Roehampton Club, Sunningdale GC, Brook’s, Boodle’s and the Royal Automobile Club which was also host to a black tie gala dinner which raised an excellent £8,000 for the European Club Education Foundation through a silent auction on the night. The monies raised for the ECEF will go towards providing education opportunities for up and coming European Club Managers.

Speaking of the success of the event CMAE President Marc Newey CCM said: “We wanted to make the Conference a memorable educational and social experience showing the best of what London Clubs can offer. I think we achieved that and I am very proud to be a part of the CMAE team that delivered it“.
