The fourth event in the Leading Edge Series of seminars was recently held at Castle Stuart Golf Links near Inverness in Scotland. The Leading Edge Series is an educational initiative held in conjunction with a number of patrons, including Castle Stuart, GEO (Golf Environment Organization), Emirates Golf Club, PGA Catalunya and equipment manufacturer Jacobsen.
Thirty-four delegates from golf courses around the world took part in the two-day series of seminars and networking activities. Representatives from Castiglion del Bosco, The Wisley, Burhill Group, Skibo Castle and Royal Aberdeen were just some of the delegates present at Castle Stuart for the event.
The seminars, designed to encourage topical discussions, included a presentation by Castle Stuart’s course manager Chris Haspell. Chris explained the architectural and construction process that took place to create the four-time Scottish Open venue, Castle Stuart Golf Links. Other seminars included a presentation entitled “If it isn’t difficult, it can’t be good” by Castle Stuart General Manager Stuart McColm, a talk by Eric Duea from GEO and an introduction to PGA Catalunya and its maintenance regimes from Course Manager David Bataller. Acclaimed turfgrass specialist, Thom Nikolai of Michigan State University, also presented his research findings with the group.
Delegate Danny Murray from The Wisley Golf Club in Surrey, spoke about his Leading Edge experience: “I have had a fantastic couple of days at Castle Stuart. It has been a unique experience which has enabled me to discuss best practices with my peers and to gain up-to-date information about the industry and new maintenance techniques. Castle Stuart has been a fantastic host; the food, entertainment and setting have really surpassed my expectations. I think I speak on behalf of all delegates when I thank Castle Stuart, GEO, Emirates Golf Club, PGA Catalunya and Jacobsen for making this event possible.”
Nick Brown, International Corporate Accounts Manager at Jacobsen, added: “Jacobsen is extremely proud to be working in conjunction with Castle Stuart Golf Links, PGA Catalunya, GEO and Emirates Golf Club. This event is constantly gaining momentum and we are pleased to announce that Le Golf National has become our latest patron and will host a future Leading Edge event. We now look forward to welcoming more delegates to the Leading Edge family at the next event taking place at PGA Catalunya in April 2017.”
