Miguel Lourenco has become the first Portuguese Club Manager to obtain CMAE’s Club Management Diploma.

Miguel who has an extensive management track record including Vila Sol Spa and Golf Resort in the Algarve and pre-opening manager of the Mangais Golf Resort in Angola, recently completed his CMAE Diploma at a Management Development Programme (MDP) organised by Club Manager Spain in Madrid.

The Club Management Diploma is available to all CMAE delegates who attend CMAE’s MDP 1 and MDP 2 Courses, pass the multiple choice exam on the 10 core competencies of a modern club manager, fulfill the obligations of the group executive case study (which includes making a presentation to a ‘Board’ on their findings) and who then submit and pass a work based assignment of 1,200 – 2,000 words on a situation at their club that they resolved using the strategic management tools learnt during the two MDP Courses.

Since its launch in 2012, there have now been over 100 recipients of the Diploma. The Diploma is valid for 5 years and in order to maintain their status, CMAE member holders must continue to invest in their development and accumulate 120 continuous professional development (CPD) credits during that 5 year period.

Commenting on his diploma, Miguel said, “I am delighted to have achieved the CMAE Club Management Diploma. The two courses were intensive, but the quality of the presenters and fellow delegates made them also very enjoyable. I am now working with the Portuguese Club Managers Association in an attempt to bring MDP to Portugal, so my colleagues here can benefit from this quality executive education”

CMAE’s Director of Education, Michael Braidwood, said of Miguel’s success “congratulations to Miguel, he set himself a tough challenge by doing both of his MDP courses within one month and subsequently getting his diploma. It takes a lot of dedication and hard work, as well as excellent knowledge of the club industry to pass the diploma in such a short time frame. It is great to see a new diploma recipient from another country in Europe and I am sure Miguel will inspire many others from Portugal to follow in his foot steps”
