What’s your job title and how long have you worked at CMAE?
I am the Director of Education, and I’ve been involved with CMAE for 9 years now. I began my journey as a volunteer member of the Education Policy Committee. I have officially been working with the association for 5 and a half years.
What does your role entail?
In simple terms, I oversee the education pathway for Club managers across Europe and beyond. That includes helping to develop and deliver our Management Development Programmes, working with an outstanding network of tutors and industry experts, and constantly looking at how we can evolve and raise standards in Club management education. A big part of my role is making sure our programmes are practical, relevant, and genuinely impactful for those attending. I also oversee our other educational activities including online training.
On top of this I have started the development of some additional programmes which will support our members with their professional and personal development. This is an exciting time to be in this role with CMAE.
An important part of my role is to spend time either on the phone or through zoom calls with our members to try to assist and guide them in the careers, which is incredibly rewarding.
What does a typical working week look like for you?
There’s no such thing as a “typical” week which is part of the fun, and something that I enjoy. I could be facilitating an MDP somewhere in Europe one week, planning future programmes the next, attending a conference, or working with national associations to develop education development strategies. There’s a lot of travel, a lot of conversations, and a lot of detailed planning.
Where in the world are you based?
I’m based in Dublin, Ireland, but I spend a good amount of time on the road delivering programmes and supporting our members across Europe and internationally.
What’s the most rewarding thing about your job?
Definitely watching people grow in confidence, knowledge and progressing in their respective careers . Seeing Club managers arrive at a programme with questions and leave with clarity, confidence, and a stronger sense of direction is incredibly fulfilling. When you know you’ve helped someone think differently, lead better, or make a meaningful change at their club makes it all worthwhile. Playing even a small part in shaping the next generation of leaders in the Club industry is something I genuinely value.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
Family always comes first. I love spending time with my two boys, especially watching them playing football. I’m passionate about sport in general, enjoy playing golf, travelling, and reading.
Favourite sports team?
Arsenal Football Club. I have supported them since I was a small kid and have had the opportunity to go watch many live games throughout the years. Will this be our year……
