The latest Club Managers Association of Europe’s (CMAE) Management Development Programme (MDP) Part 2 was another resounding success for the Scottish Golf Union / Scottish Ladies Golf Association (SGU/SLGA) in Stirling last week.

The Scottish golf club delegates were joined by managers from England and the United Arab Emirates. Leading educators from America, Scotland and England, Gregg Patterson, Ronnie Malcolm, Rick Bond, Bill Sanderson, Kevin Fish CCM, and Helen Bennett kept everyone engaged by their exciting presentations. Delegates also worked in teams on a case study problem solving exercise throughout the 5 day course.

Launched in 2011 the highly regarded Management Development Programme delivers top class education to club managers and senior staff throughout Europe, covering all 10 core competencies of modern club management.

The course was underwritten and hosted by the SGU / SLGA who firmly believe that progressive and on going education for club managers will contribute to the continuing growth and development of clubs in Scotland.

SGU / SLGA’s Club Development Manager Kevin Fish, CCM, who is now in his final year as Chair of the CMAE Education Policy Board, said “we are delighted by the success of the MDP to date. We ran our first Level One course here in Scotland in 2011 and since then have followed up with 10 more well-subscribed courses. These are really having a positive impact on the performance of our Scottish clubs, and we are starting to see the statistics to prove it !”

On the Wednesday evening of the week the CMAE Scottish Region organised a special seminar with internationally renowned speaker Gregg Patterson talking on the importance of bringing happiness to the role of the Club Manager, and in particular the important function of welcoming new members. Over 70 delegates were welcomed to the session sponsored by insurance company Circle Golf. Prior to the session, Kevin, took the opportunity to present a Club Management Diploma to Diane Nicol of Craigmillar Park Golf Club, who is one of 42 managers in Scotland to secure this accolade.

The MDP pathway was originally developed by the Club Managers Association of America and thanks to their vision and generosity, it has been given to CMAE who have adapted the materials for the European Golf, Sports and City Club Markets.

The next MDP programme being organised by the SGU / SLGA region is a MDP Part 1 course from 26th – 30th October 2015, again in Stirling.
