Energise the winter months for your players with Golf Genius Leagues and beat the cold mornings with the warmth of an incentivised competitive format to help generate participation in the club.
Aimed at increasing rounds played by keeping members engaged and getting more players to the golf course and socialising in the bar, Golf Genius’ innovative library of formats and flexible nature enables clubs to easily manage their weekly golf events into an engaging order of merit to maintain interest over the winter.

Whether it’s a more traditional betterball, foursomes or texas scramble concept, or one of the lesser-known Cha Cha Cha or Lone Ranger formats, Golf Genius can integrate these with other side games such as twos, birdies and skins to provide an incredibly fun and engaging experience, including a winter season eclectic for every player.

Next-level digital tools, such as live mobile scoring, digital scorecards and text messaging communication, give clubs all the options to run modern golf tournaments and provide a better experience for their members.

Shipley Golf Club have implemented Golf Genius’ diverse set-up options in its winter leagues over the last few seasons, using the software to help get more of its members out playing the course in what are typically quieter months for the Yorkshire-based club.

Commenting on the success of the winter league they ran last year, Head PGA Professional Nathan Stead said, “The winter league was a real success here at Shipley. The members absolutely loved it and their feedback was overwhelming. It definitely had a positive impact on golf participation.”

Adding to Nathan’s words, Craig Higgs, Managing Director for Golf Genius International, said, “With the recent boom in participation numbers seen across the UK, it is imperative that clubs put their best foot forward with their winter golf offering to encourage this new and rejuvenated audience to maintain their involvement. Anything a club can do to increase rounds played in the low season will not just help with increased bar takings, but also ease the challenge of collecting subscriptions in the run-up to the new season.

“Our tried and tested winter league puts market-leading tools in the hands of clubs to give their members a reason to get out on the course and enjoy the game in new and different formats,” continued Higgs.

Stephen Hindle, Golf Manager at Marriott Worsley Park in Manchester, who has been using Golf Genius for the last five years to manage golf events, said: “We began using Golf Genius in a corporate golf capacity but have expanded the amount we use the software and one of the events that has been very successful has been our winter league. Having the app at the tip of our players’ fingers, with all the information accessible and interactive, really provides a great experience.”

Golf Genius’ extensive library of innovative formats and next-level digital tools enable bespoke winter leagues to be tailored to suit the needs of any club. Running from the beginning of November through to March, Worsley Park’s winter league is held as a matchplay format. “Every other Sunday, it’s a really nice way of continuing some competitive golf through the winter and we get around 15 pairs enter for the series,” added Hindle.

Setting up events has proven to be one of the key benefits of Golf Genius for the Worsley Park team. “The beauty of Golf Genius is that is does a lot of the hard work for you in terms of the organisation, making it simple to create a diary, manage the details and set up the events.”

Enhancing the golf experience has been another focus for Hindle, who has seen his golfers enjoy using the software. “For the golfers it’s easy to use and pulls all the information they need into one place. Players can see the leaderboards, review past scores, use the chat function, and send messages to organise their matches.”

Golf Genius prides itself on the level of support it offers to customers and Stephen has developed a strong working relationship with his Golf Genius account support. Often multiple members of staff working on events will need support and training to get familiar with the system. “Our admin team using the software is made up of myself and one other and we get great support from the Golf Genius team, in particular Nick and Charlotte, who help out if we’re struggling with anything. It’s not that often that we need much help, and usually the online knowledge base has the answer, but it’s nice to have the support just a phone call away if we need it.”

Stephen has recognised the development Golf Genius has continually made and sees a bright outlook for managing events. “Golf Genius is the future of golf events in my opinion. There’s nothing they haven’t thought of and once you input the information you have everything you need to run great tournaments. Using Golf Genius has added a lot more interaction to our winter league especially and I would highly recommend any club gives it a go.”
