A student-led research team from Bournemouth University (BU) is conducting research on behalf of the Club Managers Association of Europe (CMAE) to investigate how to keep girls (11-18) in golf.

In this study BU are hoping to identify and address the themes that may stop girls from playing golf and help the CMAE to seek solutions. In order for this research to be successful we are asking for you help.

For the first part of the research, they are going to conduct a questionnaire to help identify the themes that cause young girls (11-18) to drop out. We are asking you to help with this data collection by passing on the details of this project to parents and junior girls at your club through the questionnaire attached to this article.

Please can you pass this on to all the junior girls (11-18) (and parents) at your club and ask for their assistance in completing it. We are focusing on girls because the dropout rate is much higher than boys. The questionnaire will take the participants between 10-20mins to complete and will be completely anonymous. As the girls will be under 18, they need to seek parental permission before completing the questionnaire. There is a participant information sheet to provide you and the parents with more information on our study. The questionnaire is online and easy to fill out, and will close on 26th November 2017 at midday.

After this data has been collected, BU will be looking to conduct some focus groups to gain a more in-depth understanding of what is going on. If you feel any of the girls in your club might be interested in this then please can you let the CMAE know and we will pass this onto BU.

Lastly, we and BU, would like to say thank you for your help in our study and we hope this research can make a difference in the future of golf participation.
