CMAE are proud to have held an Education Taster Day for the On Course Foundation (OCF).

OCF is a valuable asset to wounded and sick Service personnel and veterans. Members of OCF who are interested in a career in Golf Club Management came to The Berkshire Golf Club on March 12th for a day to learn more about the career of a club manager and the in’s and out’s of running a club.

Bill Sanderson, skilled presenter and facilitator for CMAE moderated the day with great passion and enthusiasm. Presentations were given by Geoff Johnson, Tidworth Garrison Golf Club who could speak first hand about his experiences of transitioning from the Armed Forces to General Manager of a Golf Club since he has done it himself.

Marc Newey, CCM CCE and Richard Harrison from Roehampton Club have both had experience with hiring members of OCF and shared their experiences from an employers perspective and also trends within Club Management. Lastly, Secretary and host at The Berkshire Golf Club, Michael Newland CCM, shared his story of his career in club management to date and also touched on some of the challenges and benefits of working within the Golf Club Industry.

Alistair McKay Forbes, Managing Director of the OCF said the following: “I just wanted to thank you all for arranging what was an excellent and really worthwhile day for us at The Berkshire. You all gave the guys a great insight into the Club Managers role and the CMAE pathway and that is exactly what I was wanting to achieve out of the day. Playing the game has played a massive part in supporting the recovery process of our beneficiaries following their injuries, but it is the employment aspect that ticks the final box in getting the guys back into a normal civilian life. This event played an important role in educating some of those that had shown an interest in club management what exactly is involved and to reignite their interest in finding employment.”

“We at CMAE are happy to show that we do more than only the MDP (Management Development Programme), Torbjörn “Toby” Johansson, CMAE Director of Education commented. “I was happy to be approached by Alistair and we found this solution and made it work. We are happy to support this great cause and look forward doing other event to show are width in the organisation with our skilful members and of course presenters used on MDP.”
