THE FINANCIAL CONTROLLER/ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER OPPORTUNITY AT COUNTY LOUTH GOLF CLUB
The Financial Controller / Assistant General Manager is a key leadership role within County Louth Golf Club, combining hands-on responsibility for the Club’s finance function with broader involvement in its day-to-day operation. Working closely with the General Manager and Management Committee, the successful candidate will oversee financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, controls and longer-term financial planning, while acting as a trusted business partner across the Club. Alongside finance, the role will take on agreed operational responsibilities, support the General Manager across the wider business and provide an excellent opportunity for an ambitious finance professional to develop their experience within club leadership and management.

FINANCIAL CONTROLLER/ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Club’s finance function, taking ownership of financial reporting, controls, compliance and the overall financial integrity of the business.
- Own the annual budgeting and forecasting cycle, including cashflow planning and longer-term financial modelling, providing the General Manager and Management Committee with a clear view of current performance and outlook.
- Manage month-end, quarterly and year-end reporting, turning financial information into clear, relevant insight on performance, variances, trends and areas requiring attention.
- Act as a key financial partner to the General Manager and Management Committee, using commercial judgement and analysis to support decisions across the Club rather than simply reporting the numbers.
- Lead the financial planning and oversight of the Club’s capital programme, including multi-year planning, project evaluation, investment appraisal and monitoring expenditure against agreed budgets.
- Oversee the day-to-day finance function while continually improving systems, processes and controls to create an efficient, well-managed and forward-looking finance operation.
- Develop a strong understanding of the wider Club by working alongside the General Manager across areas including golf operations, membership and communications, bringing a financial perspective while gaining broader operational experience.
- Deputise for and support the General Manager when required, taking on wider leadership and operational responsibilities, contributing to the Club’s strategic direction, making this an opportunity for an experienced finance professional with ambitions to develop towards broader club leadership.
CANDIDATE EXPERIENCE, ATTRIBUTES & QUALIFICATIONS
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with strong technical accounting knowledge.
- A minimum of two years’ experience at Finance Manager or Financial Controller level, combining hands-on financial management with oversight of the accounting function.
- Strong experience across budgeting, forecasting, cashflow, management accounts, financial reporting and year-end accounting.
- A commercially minded business partner, comfortable working with senior leaders to provide financial insight, challenge and support decision-making.
- Some operational management experience, with an understanding of how finance connects with and supports the day-to-day running of a business.
- A genuine interest in being involved beyond finance, with the willingness to take on operational responsibilities and develop towards broader Club leadership.
- A strong understanding of and passion for golf, with an appreciation of the private members’ club environment.
