Meet the Team – Debbie Goddard

What’s your job title and how long have you worked at CMAE?

I joined CMAE as a full-time member of staff in 2018, although I had been involved with the association for many years prior on a part-time, outsourced basis. All in all, I’ve been part of the CMAE journey for around 14 years.

I started in a primarily administrative role, but over time I became increasingly involved in marketing. In 2025, I stepped into the role of Marketing & Events Manager.

What does your role entail?

I lead on all marketing activities across the association. This includes planning and delivering marketing campaigns to promote our education programmes, events and partnerships, as well as overseeing our social media, e-communications, website and wider digital presence.

What does a typical working week look like for you?

We usually kick off the week with a team catch-up on Zoom. From there, it’s a mix of day-to-day tasks and managing longer-term projects.

Regular responsibilities include managing job adverts, updating the website, and preparing e-communications such as our newsletter, education updates and jobs email and running the social media. Some days I’ll be out at meetings or filming video content, which I then edit and prepare for release.

Press releases, designing and updating brochures and creating graphics are also frequent tasks. Alongside this, I’ll spend some time planning future campaigns and developing new content ideas.

Where in the world are you based?

I grew up in Warwick and currently live in a village just outside Southam, approx. 6 miles from Leamington Spa and 25 miles from Birmingham. Being Midlands based is pretty handy as its an hour on the train to London and most other places are an easy driving distance.

What’s the most rewarding thing about your job?

Having been involved with the association for so long, it’s incredibly rewarding to see how much we’ve grown and evolved. We’ve gone from a team of one-and-a-half to a team of six, now delivering around 20 MDP courses each year – and it’s been exciting to be part of that journey.

It’s also very special to see members progress in their careers and education. Watching someone start on MDP 1 and eventually achieve their CCM is a real highlight.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?

I’m quite into my fitness and attend a military style bootcamp 3 times a week. I’ve also done events such as mud runs in the past and have recently signed up to the Two Castles run this year which is a 10k run from Warwick to Kenilworth Castle. Long distance running isn’t really my strong point so it will be a good challenge. I also really enjoy fishing and its not uncommon for myself and my partner to spend a Sunday by the lake catching some carp!

Favourite sports team?

My dad used to take me to Coventry City football games when I was young but despite this I never really caught the football bug. I always get behind the national team during big tournaments though, and I also like rugby union and get invested into the six nations each year.
