European Club Education Foundation announces Young Manager Bursary winners

Directors of ECEF recently worked through the numerous applications for the Young Manager Bursary award for 2020, sponsored by ECEF Chairman and former CMAE President, Marc Newey, CCM CCE, and aimed at Managers aged under 30 across Europe.

Directors of ECEF recently worked through the numerous applications for the Young Manager Bursary award for 2020, sponsored by ECEF Chairman and former CMAE President, Marc Newey, CCM CCE, and aimed at Managers aged under 30 across Europe.

The judging panel decided that Nathan Watts, Assistant Secretary at Lilley Brook GC in England and soon to be graduated sports business management student, should receive the 2020 full bursary award.

The bursary will fund Nathan to attend an MDP 1 Course in Europe this year to start his journey to achieving CMAE ‘s Club Management Diploma which is recognised as the benchmark club management qualification.

In addition to the full bursary awarded to Nathan, the ECEF awarded a part bursary award to Taija Tuulia Viklund, Club Coordinator at Kankaisten Golfpuisto Oy in Finland.

Taija has been working in golf for 6 years and will graduate from the Turku School of Economics this spring.

Commenting on receiving the bursary, Nathan said “I am thrilled and honoured to win the 2020 Young Managers Bursary to complete the CMAE MDP part 1 course. I’m excited to get started and meet with other individuals beginning there MDP journey. I can’t wait to widen my knowledge into the club industry to progress my development and achieve my future career aspirations. I look forward to hopefully attain the club management diploma in the next year or so. I would like to thank Marc Newey and ECEF Board of Directors for this opportunity.”

Taija said “I am delighted to receive one of the ECEF Young Manager Bursaries. MDP1 is said to be the best entry level management course in the Club industry. The course enables me to continue combining my passion for golf with my studies in Business Administration. I feel honoured to get the opportunity to attend this course and to gain a deeper insight of the Club Management.”
