Malone Golf Club manager becomes the latest CCM success

CMAE is pleased to announce that Paddy Dean has recently achieved the globally recognised Certified Club Manager (CCM) designation.

CMAE is pleased to announce that Paddy Dean has recently achieved the globally recognised Certified Club Manager (CCM) designation.

Paddy has been awarded the CCM certification after passing the CCM exam, which is a seven hour exam consisting of a multiple choice examination and a case study and now becomes the 58th CCM in Europe and the first in Northern Ireland.

The CCM exam can be taken by those who fulfil a number of eligibility requirements, including completing the full Management Development Programme pathway and attending the World Conference on Club Management in the USA.

Paddy previously held positions in fields including insurance, estate agency, financial services admin and accountancy, before moving into club management in February 2014 when he was appointed General Manager of Malone Golf Club in Belfast and attended his first MDP course at Stirling university three weeks into the job.

Speaking on his experience of the MDP and CCM exam Paddy explained “From that point on I was determined to follow the MDP pathway through to completion, attending MDP 2 in Bournemouth in 2015 and then MDP Golf at St Andrews in December 2016.

World Conference in San Francisco in 2018 was the next step before completing MDP 3 Strategy & Leadership in January 2019.

In February 2020 I now had the necessary six years of management experience under my belt to enable me to apply to sit the CCM exam. I had originally planned to sit the exam in March, then lockdown/Coronavirus hit.

CMAE allowed me to sit the exam remotely, under direct supervision, and I am thrilled to now be able to say that I am the first club manager from Northern Ireland to achieve CCM status.”

Paddy is delighted to gain his CCM status commenting “I have thoroughly enjoyed participating in the MDP pathway at every stage, especially in respect of the wonderful people I have met along the way. It is a great honour to now be among an elite group of club managers who hold the CCM designation in Europe, but I am determined to continue in respect of developing my knowledge and continuing professional development through CMAE and look forward to attending future World and European conferences when the current pandemic is over.”

CMAE Director of Education Torbjörn “Toby” Johansson says the following: “I have had the pleasure of knowing Paddy for quite some time now and am delighted to see his progress. I have witnessed his devotion to his club in these tough times and being able to perform on a test at the same time – a huge accomplishment. I am thrilled to have Paddy join the CCM Tribe.”
