Overview of the role:

To take responsibility for the day to day running of golf retail, golf operations and all instruction, providing exceptional service for all members and guests.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a high profile with members and guests.
  • Promotes and executes member events and daily play.
  • Oversees golf operations including tournaments, rules, tee sheet activity, merchandise inventory, range operations, player service operations, outside service operations and cart fleet management.
  • Ability to manage the full golf operation in the absence of the Director of Golf.
  • Creates a member-focused service environment that meets and surpasses the needs of the members.
  • Implements policies and procedures for the golf department. Prepares work schedules and assigns associates areas of responsibility.
  • Provides leadership and vision to golf staff, building people, and preparing them for career advancement.
  • Provides golf instruction through lessons and clinics to members and guests.
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, and directing work, evaluating performance, rewarding, and disciplining associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Ensure evaluations and annual reviews are completed and recorded for all applicable staff.
  • Manages department members that may include, but is not limited to: Assistant and Associate Golf Professionals, Teaching Professionals, and Guest Services Attendants. Monitors business volume forecast and plans accordingly in areas of team, productivity, costs and other expenses
  • Maintain control of employee uniforms, ensuring that uniforms and name tags are worn and kept in proper condition and readily available at all times to employees.
  • Establish and maintain responsibility for the cleanliness and appearance of the Golf Shop, storage areas, and merchandise displays.
  • Monitors all retail and merchandise related activities including; all receiving, pricing, open-to-buy management and maintains sound inventory practices as necessary.
  • Attend staff meetings as scheduled by management and schedule staff meetings with golf operations personnel.
  • Assist in the publications of newsletters, informational, and promotional materials.
  • Work closely with all department heads to achieve the goals and objectives of the facility.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with other departments across the estate.
  • Maintain and promote a positive professional image within the community.
  • Maintains membership with the PGA and/or other professional associations.
  • Display honest and ethical behaviour.
  • Play golf with a variety of members and/or guests as time permits.

Education & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA) preferred from a college or university; and three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be a Class A Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) member.
  • Knowledge of Golf rules, handicap, course rating system, and mechanics of golf, equipment and tournament organisation.
  • Knowledge of cashing handling procedures and internal controls.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with computerised POS and tee time system.
  • Possesses qualified teaching skills.
  • Must have the ability to lead a team.
  • Strong organisational, planning and prioritisation skills.
  • Possesses strong leadership and hospitality skills.
  • The ability to speak French is desirable but not essential.
