About The Metropolitan Golf Club
The Metropolitan Golf Club (the Club) is one of Australia’s premier private golf clubs, renowned for its rich history, world-class championship course, and exceptional member experience. Located in the heart of Melbourne’s famed Sandbelt, the club has hosted numerous national and international tournaments and continues to uphold the highest standards in golf, hospitality, and service.
Today, the Club stands at a pivotal juncture. It has just completed the final stage of its comprehensive course redesign and greens restoration project—managed by Crafter & Mogford Golf Strategies—with the full course open for member play in March. Concurrently, discussions are underway with Huntingdale Golf Club about a potential amalgamation, an initiative designed to create a unique 36‐hole golfing experience and enhance membership value.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic General Manager to lead the Club into its next phase of success. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the General Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of club operations, including member services, financial management, course maintenance, hospitality, and strategic planning. This is a rare opportunity for a passionate leader to manage one of Australia’s most prestigious golfing institutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and operational management across all areas of the club including course and grounds maintenance, golf shop retail, teaching services and range operation and maintenance, golf operations, hospitality, and administration.
- Ensure an exceptional member experience by delivering world-class service and amenities.
- Execute long-term strategic plans in alignment with the club’s vision and values.
- Oversee financial performance, budgeting, and cost management to ensure sustainability.
- Lead and develop a high-performing team management team across all departments
- Maintain and enhance the club’s reputation within the local and international golf community.
- Work closely with the Board of Directors to implement governance and policy decisions.
- Foster strong relationships with members, staff, sponsors, and external stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and industry standards.
- Project management, oversee the completion of major projects and initiatives, including the grow-in of the course re-design works.
- Contribute to the development of the business case for the potential amalgamation with Huntingdale Golf Club.
- Development and execution of plans to celebrate the club’s 125th anniversary in 2026.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring a combination of strategic vision, leadership experience, and a strong understanding of the golf and hospitality industries.

- Proven experience and track record of performance and achievement as a General Manager or senior leadership role in a golf club, hospitality, or similar member-based organisation.
- A strong understanding of golf operations and private club culture.
- Exceptional leadership and team management skills.
- Strong financial and business acumen, including budget management and financial reporting.
- A member-first mindset with a commitment to excellence in service delivery.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with members and stakeholders and overall good judgement.
- Experience in governance, compliance, and regulatory frameworks.
- A passion for golf and an appreciation of the traditions and values of a prestigious private club.
