General Manager, Royal Winchester Golf Club

We have an exciting opportunity for a professional General Manager to take charge of all Golf Club operational requirements with accountability for financial results and the implementation of our long-term strategy in  this progressive Private Members Club.

Royal Winchester Golf Club, established in 1888,  is set on the outskirts of Winchester. Our modern Clubhouse has panoramic views overlooking the golf course which is set in 200 acres of Hampshire countryside.  We have a friendly inclusive culture and are open to new ideas.

The successful candidate will have the drive and energy to be an innovative, results orientated leader, a good communicator and capable of inspiring confidence and developing strong working relationships through a positive team working ethic.  

This is a diverse role and ideal opportunity for an experienced Operations or Golf Club General Manager to make a difference and help us take the Club to the next level.

You will report to the Chairman of the Management Committee and be supported by 5 committee members. You will have a high degree of autonomy to run the Club as appropriate to achieve your agreed objectives.


  • At least five years’ Operations Manager or Golf Club General Manager experience with a proven track record of success.
  • A passion for and ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Ability to handle a busy, diverse role through planning, effective time management and delegation.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, negotiating and interpersonal skills.
  • A track record of successfully managing and motivating employees and teams.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and develop strong working relationships with employees, volunteers and external organisations.
  • Extensive knowledge of IT systems and social media and how to optimize their use.
  • A good understanding and experience of financial processes and budgeting.
  • Ability to market and promote the Club.
  • Ability to manage suppliers and contractors.
  • Knowledge/experience of implementing water management , solar or other sustainability projects.
  • To be a good ambassador and role model for the Club in all dealings with members, visitors and external organisations.
