The role of General Manager offers a unique opportunity for an energetic and outgoing individual to take up a leadership role at the heart of this friendly and progressive club.
Harpenden Common is a private members’ golf club in Harpenden, a thriving market town three miles north of St Albans. Much of its 18-hole course is laid out on ancient grassland, and the club has a reputation for the excellence of its greens. We are one of the leading Clubs in Hertfordshire, having been Premier League Champions in the past two seasons, have strong local affiliations, over 700 members 7 we prize our friendly & welcoming atmosphere.
Key responsibilities:
We are looking for a General Manager who can lead our team to ensure we provide high quality services to all members and visitors. We are a 7-day a week operation and the GM will be required to work on a flexible basis to suit the activities of the club. In particularly, the primary responsibilities will be:
- To lead the staff team, to coordinate the day to day operation of the Club, to engage with the Clubs’ members and visitors to provide a first-class golfing experience.
- To take full profit and loss accountability for the club’s operations and ensure the effective management of its finances and assets, working with the Honorary Treasurer to ensure timely and accurate reporting to the Management Committee.
- To support and enable the work of the new Management Board and its sub-committees to ensure the effective governance of the club and to plan for the future.
Personal Attributes:
- Well organized and efficient management of administrative and golfing activities.
- Commercial and financial acumen with a good knowledge of sound business practices and P&L skills
- Attention to detail and focus on quality of experience for both members and visitors.
- Working knowledge of day-to-day golf club administration.
- Strong leadership, motivation, diplomacy and communication skills.
- Golfing intelligence, with an appreciation of the game and its traditions within a private members’ club.
- A flexible approach to working hours with the ability to work under pressure.
- A CMAE/GCMA qualification would be an advantage
