General Manager, Ashford Golf Club

Ashford GC, established in 1903, is a thriving Members’ Club, with over 680 members. The Club is looking to recruit a committed, ambitious and inspiring Golf Club Manager who can work with our excellent staff teams, members and the Management Committee and Directors to develop and deliver the Club’s strategic plan. For more information: www.ashfordgolfclub.co.uk

Main Objectives: 

The General Manager will drive this process for the benefit of the membership, optimising the opportunities provided by our course, location, and clubhouse.  These skills need to be blended with a proven track record that brings together the different elements of club management to create a service-excellence culture and a one-team mentality. 

  • Executive responsibility/accountability for the day-to-day management of the Club, the Course, and its’ premises within the framework of the Club’s policies, procedures & approved budgets. 
  • Deliver appropriate Management Information reporting, providing monthly updates to the Committee and the wider membership. 
  • Achieve high standards of performance from all staff by inspiring and motivating the teams. 
  • Bring industry best practice to all areas of the Club’s activities, playing a key role in delivering the Club’s key operational, financial, and strategic goals.

Candidate Profile: 

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with a focus on working collaboratively and the ability to relate to people of all backgrounds. 
  • Strong financial literacy and excellent IT system skills. Including a working knowledge of Sage, Xero and Club Systems is essential.
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience of growing revenue streams whilst controlling costs. 
  • An appreciation of golf, and of the expectations and traditions of a members’ club as well as a track record of marketing in a similar type of environment. 
  • A flexible approach to working hours to meet the demands of the position, with the ability to work under pressure. 
  • Up to date knowledge of employment law, licensing law, HSE and other regulations, applicable to club management and small companies. 
  • Some greenkeeping knowledge that enables effective supervision of golf course operations – (desirable but not essential) 
  • A sound knowledge of the Rules of Golf & WHS Handicapping System would also be desirable. 
  • A University/College/CMAE or PGA recognized qualification would be beneficial but not essential. 

Salary: The salary guide is dependent on skills and experience but commensurate with the position and the overall package will include: 5% pension contribution, meals on duty & 20 day’s holiday. Relocation assistance could be provided, if required. 

Hours: The successful candidate will be expected to work as part of the club roster.  This will be a flexible, minimum of 40 hours per week including some weekends and bank holidays, throughout the year. Typically, opening hours are 9am to 5pm (earlier or later with events)
