Stoke by Nayland is a highly-regarded, 36-hole resort on the Suffolk/Essex border. Founded in 1972 as a private members’ club it was further developed with the addition of a spa, several restaurants, and lodges. It has played host to several tour events including the PGA Seniors Championship, won by Sam Torrance. The two championship courses, The Gainsborough and Constable have spectacular views over an area of outstanding natural beauty at Dedham Vale.

Stoke by Nayland are looking to recruit a dynamic and experienced Head Greenkeeper to join their management team. The primary focus is to manage the team on a day to day basis and drive continuous golf course improvements.

The successful candidate will report to the Director of Golf and should be comfortable with the ability to follow work programs set out by the Course Agronomist and should have experience of training and motivating staff and managing standards within a team.

Key responsibilities, qualities & experience:

  • Deliver the 52-week maintenance plan as set by the agronomy consultant, adjusting it when necessary
  • Work with the Director of Golf and Agronomy Consultant to deliver capex plans on budget, including the upgrading of the pump and irrigation system
  • To utilise the Greenkeeping team to ensure the course is properly laid out, prepared and maintained to the required standard for members and guests
  • Manage the Greenkeeping team to assist in the turf maintenance including mowing, irrigating and control of pests and disease on the greens

Candidates must have a minimum of three years management experience ideally gained within a golf or sports turf environment, and a proven track record of delivering premier turf surfaces. They must also have their PA1, PA2 and PA6 spraying licenses as well as a minimum Level 2 NVQ in Sport Turf Maintenance or equivalent.
